How the heck did my first post get entered twice? I should've said the Death Star I's shields were porous enough for a light freighter to get through!

If you've read "Vendetta" and "Before Dishonor," you know that both PKs had pilots, and their computers were inhabited by the minds of the builders. So there was real intelligence driving them. So suppose the Planet Killer kept its front end facing away from the ionic cannon? Then again, it let the Constellation fly down its throat after being damaged by a shuttle craft explosion.

What would be the Death Star's chances of cracking the PK's hull with the ionic cannon? If it fired at full power and didn't disable or destroy the PK, it would need 24 hours to recharge and would be reduced to conventional weapons for defense, allowing the PK time to repair and fire. And if you use the Vendetta version, it would have full 360-degree firing capability.

I know for a FACT that the Bugle-snack-shaped Doomsday Machine would win since it is more advanced than anything in Star Wars movies.

According to the Star Trek novels "Vendetta" and "Before Dishonor," much faster, and probably a bit more maneuverable. Other facts: the planet killer has a solid neutronium hull, but its hull has a big opening into its power core right in front. The Death Star has an ionic cannon that can destroy a planet in a single shot, but its hull is made of ordinary materials, and its shields are porous enough for a group of fighters to slip through.

hmm, now this is a tough one...the doomsday machine is made for slicing chunks out of planets and then eating the debris, and the death star looks like a planet...

the doomsday machine could also be faster and more manueverable than the death star

I'll be thinking about this one for awhile! :)

ah, so the anti-proton beam can slice/pound through the shielding (never mind the exhaust vent that's 2 meters wide)... :)

...but all the Death Star has to do is aim its ion cannon right down the planet killer's throat

...and it's been a while since I've read "Vendetta" (I loved that novel) -- I think the planet killer in that one was supposed to be spiral-shaped? :)
